Treating Animals Responsibly and with Respect

An owner who cares and respects animals comprehends their needs. This guardian is the custodian of all the animals he chooses to house. To have an animal is a privilege and we must insure their mental and physical well being. There is an understood obligation that we will provide what is required for a happy and healthy animal.

Ownership comes with the duty to maintain boundaries for our animals and to control instincts such as aggression and breeding. As caregivers for animals we are required to have suitable safe and hygienic atmospheres free of contaminants and debris.

As the mature individual, we are also to impart the accepted practices to children as to the humane manner in which we attend to the animals in our lives whether they are ours or not. Animals are not to be dealt with indifferently and whether they are domesticated, livestock, wild (including fowls & fish), or in captivity, they are to be handled with reverence, compassion, sensitivity and patience through their entire lives. Animals depend on us for guidance and rely on us to be there in good and bad times. They love us unconditionally and accept us as we are without judging. Think about what is just and necessary.

When seeking a kennel or pet sitter, check references by calling your veterinarian or asking for referrals. NJ animal protection laws are very weak so you can never be too cautious in selecting someone who will care for your pet the same way you do. The person who was responsible for Lenox, Bentley & Matisse's deaths as well as many crimes against other animals was found guilty. She paid a small fine and is still permitted to continue breeding, training and pet sitting.

Animals, like all sentient beings, are entitled to basic rights in our
society. Deprived of legal protection, animals are defenseless against
exploitation and abuse by humans.

1. The right of animals to be free from exploitation, cruelty, neglect and
abuse.

2. the right of laboratory animals to not be used in cruel or unnecessary
experiments.

3. the right of farm animals to an environment that satisfies their basic
physical and psychological needs.

4. The right of companion animals to a healthy diet, protective shelter, and
adequate medical care.

5. The right of wildlife to a natural habitat, ecologically sufficient to a
normal existence and a self-sustaining species population.

6. The right of animals to have their interests represented in court and
safeguarded by the law of the land.
