SAVED ANIMALS - HAPPY ENDINGS
The following animals are just a few of the many that have found loving, lasting homes thanks to wonderful people with big hearts! Knowing that these pets have at last found love and affection is what makes it all worth while. |
Bugatti was found sitting next to a down spot of a factory after a storm. He was screaming his head off since he was lost and hungry at 5 weeks of age.
Picked up by a "walker" and carried home in a pocket, he's shy but is very affectionate. He immediately adapted and began to manicure (chew) on one of
his companion's toes an 11 year old Lab. |
Beagle mix Lenox was found at 3 weeks of age in a busy traffic intersection of route 30. We stopped traffic from both direction trying to protect her from becoming road kill. No one claimed her and she lived with us for her entire life. She was spayed, yet she was so good natured to allow a foundling kitten , Waterford, to "nurse" from her. |
Rosenthal was put out of a car by the side of the road. She was elderly, gray and had been brutalized. She had lacerations on both sides of her body, broken teeth & toes. Yet, she was still loving and docile. When we cleaned her up, we were amazed she was snow white and a Samoyed! She lived for 2 years and died uneventfully in her sleep. |
Andororrera Francesca (Andy) & Jaguar. Andy was a feral who was the victim of a territory war between the father of her kittens & a challenging male. The father lost and the challenger destroyed her kittens. Andy was disoriented with the trauma and became emaciated while wandering the Pine Barrens looking for food. She was taken in and spayed and cuddles & squeaks for joy. Jaguar was the runt of the litter and prone to sickness. His owners didn't want him and a neighbor took him |
Cory & Randi. Randi found Cory after she heard of a puppy mill in W. Virginia which had closed up abandoning cocker spaniel puppies. The puppies were unsocialized, living under a hay wagon and were covered with sores and vermin. They had to fend for themselves as best they could. Randi drove to the site to help and kept Cory. Randi's is a PR/Marketing specialist for Whole Food's Market in Marlton, NJ, one of
LBMAAAF's sponsors. |
Botticelli & Sirius. At 6 months old Botticelli was brought to a shelter by his owner who said she couldn't deal with him. The shelter had no room and was planning to send him to be euthanized until a volunteer claimed him to go to foster care. The foster family decided to adopt and they say on a good day they can get Tokyo thanks to Botticelli's huge "rabbit like ears".
Sirius was found in Camden City and taken to the shelter. Being very quiet and well behaved, fooling her new adopted parents, she has a chemical imbalance and is on meds. She always had a good disposition but was extremely high strung. Very playful and loveable she lives with her mixed siblings and sleeps under the bed. Her family wouldn't think of returning her to the shelter |
Jaguar and L'orange. L'orange was thrown from a moving car when he was 4 weeks old. Fortunately he only sustained abrasions and the people who picked him up from the street have given him a good life. They considered naming him "Pavement" |
Belleek is sister to Jaguar. She's a bit of a prima donna and doesn't know how to defend herself. She too wasn't wanted and is now living comfortably |
Wyeth & friend Roxie. The new owners of Wyeth were contacted about his being physically & mentally abused by his original owner. Without a second thought, his new owners took him in where he now lives. Wyeth guards his "charges" of several cats and younger dogs in his new household, which used to be the home of Lenox, Bentley & Matisse. |
Nine of Spades (Nina) was found as a young adult greeting customers entering a department store. The management said someone drove by and dumped her and the management contacted animal control to come retrieve her. A shopper going into the store didn't want to see her sent to the shelter because so many are euthanized, so the shopper took her home where she's lived for more than 10 years. |
Waterford was found at 2 and half weeks old on a street corner. His eyes were still veiled over. As a walker and her dog passed by, Waterford let out a sigh. His movement got the walker's attention and she scooped him up and brought him home. Unbeknownst to the spayed dog, she became a "surrogate mother" to Waterford and allowed him to nurse from her. Waterford is the feline patriarch of the family of several cats. |
Wedgwood & Belleek. Wedgwood belonged to a business client who had 6 hunting dogs. Wedgwood was suppose to be the "family pet", but was kept in a cage outside. The owner was moving out west and was paying to ship the hunting dogs to his new locale and decided to put Wedgwood in the pound. When my husband heard this he offered to take Wedgwood sight unseen. "Wedgie" lived out the rest of his life in contentment with us. |
2 and half month old Chagall was found with her brother wandering Newark, NJ. She was adopted from Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League and is as happy as can be.
|
Great Dane, Remington, was rescued by MAGDRL, he was adopted along with his buddy Tula, a Chinese Crested. Tula was turned in by a breeder at age 9 because she no longer could produce off spring. She, Remington & Giant Schnauzer, Holly all live together in North Jersey and before she was adopted, Chagall lived with them too! - MaryFran Cini, NJ MAGDRL State Coordinator - |
Sandy, dressed for Halloween, was a winner in racing and was adopted out in 1997 at age 2 from Greyhound Rescue before her former owners realized the mistake. They wanted her back for breeding purposes because she was so good, but legally they had no claim to her since the adoption took place. Lucky her, lucky adopted mother Jennifer! |
Curly and Buster are 2 shelter dogs who were adopted by Gary and Ashley. Curly is a 13 year old Cocker Spaniel that was adopted by my fiancé, Gary’s, parents for him when he was in middle school. The story goes that Curly was on his last day (he was scheduled to be euthanized) when Gary saw him at the shelter. The shelter worker discouraged him about the one year old Cocker Spaniel, who’d spent his first year of life being neglected and living in a basement. Feisty as he is, Curly even snapped at the man as he pulled him from the kennel, but once he met Gary, they were playing like they’d been best friends all their lives. So, Curly went home with Gary and his family, where he housetrained himself within a few weeks, became a wonderful companion dog, and was Gary’s best friend through some very rough times.
Fast forward 11 years. Gary and I moved about an hour away from our old neighborhoods in Northeast Philly, and we were both temporarily commuting a far distance to work every day, so we decided that Curly needed a companion. He was getting older and had developed severe separation anxiety over the years, which made him cry and howl whenever he was left alone for extended periods of time.
So, we went to the local humane society’s shelter, looking for a medium sized, adult dog, that would keep Curly company throughout the day. We found a 2 year old mixed breed dog named Marty, who was picked up as a stray by another shelter and transferred there for adoption. This would be great, we thought, so we put in an application. But when we went back for our interview, we were informed that the dog was only an 8 month old puppy, which scared us off a little, since puppy training can be such a pain, but we were already in love…
But we couldn’t have our new dog going around being named after a Back to the Future character, so we renamed him Buster. Buster and Curly didn’t like each other so much at first (actually, Buster adored Curly, which Curly couldn’t stand), and Buster was far from housebroken, probably never having actually lived in a house, so we ran into some problems in the beginning. But, I am a firm believer in obedience training, and through that and a lot of patience, Buster has really turned into a great pet. Also, within a few months, he and Curly became best friends. As I write this, they are both sleeping in a corner together across the room from me. Buster has put the sparkle back into Curly’s eye, as he now has a friend to chase around the house all day long, instead of being a couch potato—Curly even lost about 6 lbs. since we adopted Buster. They look out for each other, and for us, and they really are like our children.

I had been the proud mother to a 16 month old Pug, named Namath when I decided to get a brother or sister for him. Through pet finder I found Adopt a Buddy Pug Rescue and Rocky. Rocky had been an owner surrender, he had bladder stones and terrible allergies. They put Rocky up for adoption as they felt they could no longer care for him after the birth of their baby. Within a month of coming to my home his allergies were practically non existent. Namath and him quickly became brothers, they cuddle and play together. He is such a joy I can't express how wonderful he is.
I am including a picture of my wonderful boys that you have my permission to use. Namath is on the left and Rocky is on the right. |
We adopted Hercules from the Adopt a Buddy Pug Rescue Organization over 2 weeks ago. Hercules came from a family in PA who apparently did not take care of him very well. The little guy had suffered a cluster seizure probably caused by ingesting a toxic substance in the family garage where he was kept most of the day. The poor little guy came to the rescue all skin and bones and in desperate need of love.
Hercules is the most loving thing and is always looking for love and attention from anyone that would give it. It breaks ones heart to think that this little guy wasn't given all his love back to him over his three years. Thankfully, the family decided to give Hercules up and we were fortunate enough to be allowed to have the little guy come into our home. Hercules joins his new pug brother, Cobi in many fine adventures romping throughout New York and New Jersey. Each day he is growing stronger and more secure in his new home. He is always excited to hop in the car and go wherever we might take him. He is always happy go lucky and excited to see you when you walk through the door. He has a great temperament and is a joy to be around.
We feel very lucky to have Hercules and encourage all those thinking of adopting to do so. They will give you more joy then you can imagine. It is a miracle how these guys that have been through so much still have the capacity to forgive and offer so much love no matter what!!!

These are our two precious pugs, tabitha and rocky. we had gotten tabi when she was a baby, and she wanted a brother, so instead of getting another baby, we adopted rocky from,adopt-a-buddy pug rescue in NJ.
it was the best thing we ever did. rocky is a big mush! at first, we were nervous as to how the two would react to each other. it took a little time for tabi to get used to him (she is a diva), but he immediately became comfortable in our home. soon, the two were best friends.
rocky came with a rather sad story. his former mom got him while she was a student and she did love him. however, when she moved back home, the family did not want rocky. furthermore, they locked him in a room with 2 cats all day long. he became obese, with the lack of exercise and unlimited bowls of pug and cat food. he was in dire need of some tlc.
when i contacted karen at adopt-a- buddy, she told me about him. i knew it was a great match. when we picked him up he slept on my lap the entire way home. he was very gentle with tabitha, and the two get a long famously. they play, they keep each other company and they give us more love than we could have ever dreamed of.
first put him on a diet and he lost over 10 pounds with better food (portioned) and plenty of exercise. we also trained him...he was not housebroken. with all of the love he was getting, he knew he was welcome, and he gave the love right back. he kisses us constantly, and he sings. whenever he hears a tune, he sings and howls along. he also loves other animals...especially the ones he sees on tv that he barks and jumps up to.
rocky has become a prince. his wardrobe is extensive, including a Burberry coat. he has lots of friends. he goes to daycare every wednesday where he plays all day with 20 other dogs and then gets pampered with an oatmeal bath, manicure and pedicure.
he is loved by us and our immediate and extended familes. he has a birthday party every year and goes to other pals parties. he also goes to pug meetup, where many pugs in the neighborhood get together to have some fun. at night, he sleeps in our king bed.
all in all, anyone nervous about adopting should not be. it is work, but the rewards far outway the costs. i cannot imagine my life without the love of my life, rocky, in it! (and tabi too!) i owe it all to adopt-a-buddy in NJ. - Julene-
